Plan for small and startup businesses |
|
The most common planning tool for
startup and very small businesses is a Business Plan. In such a
small-company business plan, all of the planning components (such as
the Marketing Plan) are integrated into the Business Plan.

Strategic
Business Plan for larger and high-tech organizations | |
For larger organizations, we propose
developing a high-level Strategic Plan (StratPlan) followed by business
plans for each major division or line of business. There should always
be a specialized division plan for the Information Systems area (SIS
Plan) and for organizations with substantial intellectual property (IP
Plan).

Intellectual
Property Plan (IP Plan) |
|
New product development of any type
requires very carefully planned, integrated, long-term planning. The IP
Plan integrates the planning process and the product pipeline with
patent protection and sustainable competitive advantage. SBP's COMPASS™
methodology identifies the best ways to commercialize technologies and
the incremental steps to achieve maximum value realization. There is
increased pressure on R&D and product managers to demonstrate
return on investments.

Scenario
Plan & Delphi Method Planning (blog)
|
|
Scenario
planning provides
the ability to plan for the long-term (Horizon Planning) and for
exceptional events. Planning for scenarios affords businesses the
ability to develop contingencies for various progressions of the
future. Scenarios are developed for deflection points in the
future. Although one or more scenarios might include disasters and
disaster recovery plans (DRPs), scenarios are much more than that.
Plans for break-through technology will be created, including
initiatives to be the company that invents it.
The Delphi
Method
of using teams and groups for planning can very effectively be utilized
in all strategic planning efforts, especially scenario and
sustainability plans.

Sustainability
Plans & Green Innovation (blog)
|
|
The sustainability plan will typically
be
developed in segments; however, it will always start with some type of
an assessment (a Sustainability Audit) and the initiation of
sustainability measures of resources (starting with energy and water
utilization) and emissions (grey water, black water, CO2, etc.). Supply
chain and impact associated with the customers, must be addressed. By
definition, all consumers, governments and businesses must eventually
become sustainable. Moving
toward sustainability is a process that starts first with a plan to
develop a plan.
